R2 reservation holders waiting to customize and finally place their orders will soon get a clear timeline from Rivian. While early invitations have been dropping in random waves, a broad rollout is about to give every buyer in the United States a clear look at when they can finalize their configurations.

Opening up the Waitlist

The official Rivian Instagram account shared the updated timeline when replying to a customer eager to lock in their build. Rivian responded directly to the user, stating: "By the end of the month, all US-based R2 reservation holders will be able to find their ordering window in their Rivian account."

The R2 order configurator went live last month, but access has been limited to a slow stream of direct invites. This upcoming change means that instead of guessing when your notification will arrive, you can simply log into your account to see a personalized timeframe of when the order books will open up for your specific place in line.

It is important to note that these upcoming windows are strictly for configurator access and order placement, not actual vehicle delivery dates. Buyers will receive a separate, dedicated delivery window once their order is officially locked in and confirmed.

Scaling Up the New Platform

The estimated order wait times come as factory assembly lines continue to gain momentum. Rivian originally kicked off R2 mass production back in April to prepare for its initial launch phase. Following that manufacturing milestone, the very first R2 customer deliveries began earlier this month, starting with the lineup’s highest-spec variant. To clear the deck for this new platform, Rivian has even discontinued R1S and R1T Standard trims to keep resources focused on ramping R2 mass production.

The initial delivery phase consists entirely of the R2 Performance Launch Package trim. Starting at $57,990, this premium configuration features a 656-horsepower dual-motor setup capable of a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.6 seconds. It packs an 87.9 kWh battery pack delivering up to 330 miles of range, paired with a semi-active suspension system and a unique “Drop Glass” rear window that rolls all the way down into the liftgate. The Launch Package, only available with the first few waves of orders, bundles in premium perks like a lifetime Autonomy+ software subscription and an exclusive exterior colorway.

For reservation holders who want to see Rivian’s next-generation platform in person before their ordering window opens, display models are making their way to Rivian spaces. Local showrooms have started hosting R2 viewings and demo drives, allowing buyers to check out the cabin layout, audio setup, size, and performance for themselves before putting in their order.
