Following the official launch of the R2 order configurator, Rivian has now pulled back the curtain on the gear that will accompany its most important vehicle to date. With R2 mass production beginning late last month, early adopters are now getting a first look at the add-ons that will make their electric SUV ready for the driveway and the trail.

The R2 marks a major hardware shift for Rivian, as it is the company's first vehicle to feature a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port located on the rear driver's side. Because of this, the new line of accessories focuses heavily on native NACS home charging and specialized adapters to ensure the R2 can plug in anywhere.

Charging and Power Solutions

Rivian is launching a robust suite of charging hardware designed specifically for the R2’s native NACS port. Most of these items are currently listed in the R2 configurator and will eventually make their way to the Rivian Gear Shop.

Rivian Wall Charger ($800)

This is the ultimate home charging setup for your R2, adding up to 38 miles of range per hour. It features a durable, weatherproof design for outdoor use and allows owners to schedule charging sessions when utility rates are lowest.

Rivian Portable Charger ($400)

Rivian Wave

Perfect for stowing in the frunk, this mobile kit adds up to 25 miles of range an hour via a 240V outlet or 5 miles on a standard 120V household plug. Interestingly, customers in 13 U.S. states, including CA, NY, and WA, qualify for a discount equal to the full price of this charger, as well as a J1772 AC Adapter and Combo CCS1 AC Adapter, due to local laws.

J1772 AC Adapter ($50)

This lightweight adapter allows the R2 to use standard Level 2 AC chargers found at many public stations.

Combo CCS1 DC Adapter ($200)

For road trippers, this adapter opens up access to thousands of existing DC fast chargers that utilize the CCS1 plug. You would even need this to charge at any Rivian Adventure Network locations that haven’t adopted NACS plugs yet.

Interior Upgrades and Exclusives

Rivian is also offering several custom-fit items to keep the R2’s cabin clean and cool. The highlight of this category is the Launch Key Fob, a rugged, IP67-certified piece of hardware reimagined in Rivian Green and Compass Yellow anodized aluminum. It is exclusive to the Launch Package, which comes included with the first wave of R2 Performance orders, and features a click-to-unlock carabiner. Even if the battery dies, it still uses NFC to get you into the car. Unfortunately, R2 buyers can’t order the Launch Key Fob separately.

Other interior accessories include:

Front Sunshade ($125)

Rivian Wave

Custom-fit to the R2 dash to block UV rays and heat. This is an accordion-style sunshade that sits on your dashboard and unfolds to perfectly cover the entire windshield, blocking heat and UV rays. You can simply fold it up after use, secure it with the attached strap, and stow it away anywhere in your R2’s ample storage space.

All-Weather Floor Mats ($225)

A 3-piece set made of eco rubber with deep channels for debris. They protect your R2’s flooring from the elements, shielding it from water, mud, sand, and snow, and they feature anti-skid ridges to prevent them from moving around underfoot.

Cargo Cover ($200)

Rivian Wave

A retractable layer of security to hide gear in the trunk. It’s easy to install and remove, with the sturdy, retractable cover spreading over the entirety of your R2’s trunk to hide valuable gear from view. The R2 Cargo Cover weighs 6 lb.

Screen Protector ($65)

Rivian Wave

Tempered glass protectors for both the center and driver displays with anti-glare and oleophobic coatings. The glass not only protects your R2’s screens from damage but also makes them easier to clean. Rivian includes a cleaning and installation kit with each purchase to ensure a perfect fit.

Exterior and Adventure Gear

To support Rivian's "adventurous" brand identity, the company is also offering Cargo Crossbars for $700. These are built to be incredibly sturdy, capable of carrying 187 lbs while driving or supporting a massive 606 lbs when parked — perfect for those planning to use a rooftop tent. They feature a "quick-snap" design that locks into the R2’s accessory ports with one hand and includes a built-in locking system to prevent theft.

As R2 deliveries prepare to start later this spring with the Performance trim, these accessories round out what is shaping up to be an expansive ecosystem. Rivian’s decision to follow Tesla’s NACS lead while providing immediate adapters for older charging standards shows they are serious about making the transition to the R2 as painless as possible for new EV owners. We expect Rivian to drop more R2 gear in the Gear Shop over the coming months, especially adventure- and lifestyle-focused accessories.
