Rivian is working quickly to refresh its in-car entertainment options as its fleet size prepares to scale up significantly. Following the recent debut of the official R2 order configurator, Rivian Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid held a live Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit to answer owners' software questions regarding the company’s next-generation platform.

During the Q&A, one user noted that the current multimedia application list is getting stale, asking when native options for Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Pandora, and popular video streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and Plex would arrive. Bensaid used the opportunity to lay out an official streaming roadmap for the brand's infotainment ecosystem.

Expanding the Native Media Portfolio

Building out a robust multimedia dashboard requires a lot of behind-the-scenes legal and technical coordination with large tech conglomerates.

"We would love to have as many of these as possible. We prioritize based on feedback from our customers and the collaboration with our partners. Ultimately, we want to make sure that any integration meets our security and privacy standards and seamlessly integrates into our user interface,” Bensaid replied on Reddit. “R2 will have iHeart Digital Radio at launch. We have Amazon Music coming soon, and YouTube Music right after. We will continue to expand our media portfolio on R1 and R2.”

According to this timeline, Amazon Music integration is already in its final development phases and should land via an over-the-air update shortly. YouTube Music is scheduled to follow right afterward, though owners might have to wait a little bit longer into the year for that deployment to materialize.

Aligning with Next-Gen Hardware

The confirmation of these native integrations lands alongside a major hardware push. Rivian officially initiated R2 mass production last month, and the upcoming midsize SUV platform arrives standard with significantly faster infotainment and AI processing hardware.

The R2 will feature iHeart Digital Radio right out of the gate when the first Performance Launch Package deliveries begin later this spring. Other highlights from Bensaid’s interactive session outlined long-term development strategies to give third-party developers specialized SDKs to build a curated app ecosystem, alongside a live app-connected cabin camera feed called Pet Cam. By working directly with top-tier streaming providers to implement custom-tailored interfaces, Rivian is building a premium digital environment that keeps its dashboards fresh and highly competitive.
