Rivian is gearing up for one of its biggest milestones. In a recent interaction on X, Rivian has officially confirmed that the initial customer deliveries for the R2 will begin in just a few weeks, in June 2026.
The Confirmation
The updated timeline came directly from Rivian's official account on X. When a reservation holder asked for an update on when the new vehicles would reach driveways, the social team finally had an answer.
This aligns with Rivian’s push to fully scale up production at its Normal, Illinois, facility. Early production units began rolling off the assembly line in late April.
It now appears the initial batches have successfully cleared their internal quality and validation checks and are ready for public roads.
Deliveries are starting next month! We're in the final stretch.

What to Expect in June
Rivian has already started reaching out to customers to begin configuring their final R2 designs, and the online configurator is live with the full list of paint, interior, and wheel options for all three trims.
The first wave of deliveries will be focused on the Launch Edition, which starts at $57,990 and comes with the dual-motor Performance trim.
Similar to the original R1 rollout, Rivian will likely prioritize the earliest deliveries based on geographic proximity to the factory or specific delivery hubs to simplify logistics. Current R1 owners who reserved an R2 are also expected to receive priority placement in the queue.
The Final Stretch
By offering a smaller, more affordable electric crossover, Rivian looks to capture a segment of the mainstream market and directly challenge the Tesla Model Y (how they compare).
Successfully launching the R2 on time is a huge win for the engineering and manufacturing teams, especially after dealing with recent severe weather disruptions at the Illinois plant. As June approaches, all eyes will be on Rivian to see exactly how smoothly the company can transition from the final stretch into high-volume customer handovers.
